Capture an experience January 31, 2009

Whenever you feel that some experience is beyond what you normally have, pop up your Creativity and capture it. Do something immediately to capture that experience, to remember it and to re-live it whenever you want. Here are some ways just to do that.
Grab pen and pencil and write whatever comes to your mind, focus on your thoughts how you are feeling and what made you feel like that. Or what about taking picture??? if you think what you see cannot be capture through writing, the mobile phone you purchased last month comes with in-built camera? So, what? Use it.
If you want to make it more surreal capture a video out of it. Hey but don’t be too immersed in capturing the experience that it loses it charm. Other options might be to tell other person about your experience, you can also tell it to your life partner. Now, one aspect about telling your life partner about your experience is that you have someone who have witness your life. Cool.
One more way is to capture a part of the experience may be the empty cold drink can, movie ticket or whatever that reminds you of the experience.
Now that was some serious creativity (in practical sense).
Windows Vista January 31, 2009

Ah finally microsoft anounced Microsoft Windows Vista yesterday. I was looking forward to this computer operating system from, well, since the time it was in the rumours that microsoft developers are working on the “next generation” operating system. (And it was code named longhorn then)
I knew it was scheduled to be launched on 30th of this January. And fortunate enough, yesterday I read a small article on the launch of windows Vista (I don’t remember the site). I wanted to see if these stupid news channels (which run after few stupid news items, so they can keep repeating them the whole day) carried any news about the launch. None of them has any adequate coverage about it. Only BBC world was able to caught my fancy, but not much of it, as “why should you upgrade” jinx overshadowed it and they ended the feature with just an over view of the features. I saw CNN-IBN displaying “Is it time to upgrade your PC – Windows Vista see @ 8pm ). I was very happy that they are going to have full feature on Windows Vista (that too of half an hour). I really looked forward to 8 pm, I was so excited that I didn’t have my evening nap. But later on, I was really dissappointed that it was their regular news show “Prime Time” which carried a small news item on it.
I just love this OS, why? I really like the cool graphics it has, and all those 3d graphics. I will really enjoy working on Windows Vista. And a huge list of features (like windows calender etc.) I know it, even if I can save my pocket money for the next 3 years (my parents will allow me the same till I am studying) I can’t buy it. Anyhow, they can buy me the computer. When I will buy computer I will ask for pre-installed Windows Vista OEM version. (Piracy is another story waiting to be told)

I was just going to end the post, but thought If I can share some links with you:
Time Management at its best January 10, 2009

We have been working closely planning & organizing for this community project for quite long time, it was 13th of December when all the project stakeholders collaborated online. We were negotiating a date to jumpstart our project. Our logical plan and flow of events pointed to 29th December as the big day. Many wanted the 1st January as the great day to kick start the project, but new year celebrations and engagements were holding many of us back, including me, I had exam on 1st January.
Everyone cross-checked with their schedules and availability and zeroed on 29th as the day we will begin the project, everyone agreed in unison. As per the project charter the first phase of the community project will start with me interviewing some prominent people, delivering two presentations and issuing and executing a small survey and submitting a feasibility report by the end of two days.
I rarely consult my calendar for I am not such that busy person, but that day I had an appointment, a very important one, with my sweetheart. I had promised her a movie & dinner on that day. Without any second thoughts, I disagreed with the finalized date. Many insisted on not changing the date, so I offered my apologies and resignation from the project team and to transfer responsibility that was reposed in me.
My love, to which I put infinite value, is something that I cannot compromise with. I may derive immense pleasure by serving the community but my real source of inspiration and happiness is my love. After all a promise is a promise. This is a great lesson in time management to upset your entire schedule for reasons that may appear silly but very very important & core to your existence as an individual.
Note: 2 Days after that, on 15th December, one of the project stakeholder informed me that they agree to change the day to any day of second week of January. Happy!
Why you cant sue a movie director or producer for a bad movie? January 6, 2009

If a company that makes a faulty light bulb can be sued by consumers then why can’t a film company that makes a horrible film meet the same fate?
After all, both the cases amount to cheating the consumers of his hard earned money and in both the cases, guilt can be scientifically proven – a bad film is preceded by misleading advertising and promotions promising… all together a different content and experience. Further, Lack of coherent script and character development and logical flow of story can be easily proven even if garish use of colours, tacky props/sets, insipid acting and ear drum shattering sound are debatable

Here is the answer I posted at Linked-In Q & A (Link to the actual answer)
Answer: Sir, you have asked an interesting & thought provoking question. I am impressed. Here is my explanation. I put forward 7 theories to answer this question.
1) Indirect Nature of Product & Service
You can hold a bulb right in your hand, but you cant sing with the actress right in the movie. Essentially it does not matter if the movie has a poor props or sets, but a light bulb that you purchased yesterday from the local store holding in your hand which is not working really hurts (if your money is really that hard earned)

If one sets an acceptable quality level (perfection rate) of 99 per cent, the results are:
- 200,000 wrong drug prescriptions each year.
- 30,000 new born babies accidentally dropped by doctors/nurses each year.
- Five incorrectly spelt words on every page.
- 10 Defective airplanes per 1,000
Action Plan:
- Do away with the acceptable quality limits, strive for 100% perfection rate.
- Adopt Target Zero Defects approach.
